Dialogue, poem by Paul John Roach

DIALOGUE
by Paul John Roach

“Go on, push yourself into a poem.
Silence is golden
But you’ve had enough of that.
So, what will you say,
What ruby gems
Like pomegranate fruits
Will float
Or cascade into creativity?”

“Aren’t they creative enough, those seeds?
Can’t you be satisfied
With what the everyday brings?”

“Of course not.
Everything must be interpreted.
There’s meaning to be teased
And squeezed
Out of the ordinary.”

“Perhaps you’re right.
Nothing is ordinary, anyway, is it.
It’s a gasp for breath
By a drowning man;
It’s sudden death
On a stroll in paradise.”

“Wait.
You’re getting too heavy for me, man.
Lighten up.
Push yourself into a poem,
But gently,for Chrissakes.”

“OK.”
