I Lost my Ego, poem by Paul John Roach

I LOST MY EGO
by Paul John Roach

I lost my ego
To a friend called me
Who invited us over
For a cup of tea

I had to work out
What was on his mind
So that I could present
What he was hoping to find

But my teatime friend
Had learned about projection
Which took my planning
In a whole new direction

Whenever I thought
That I had finessed a move
He deftly took it
To a different groove

“It’s all done with mirrors”
They used to say
They were closer to Truth
Back in the day

So to those brave souls
Who strive to be wise
Do not believe
What’s in front of your eyes

The journey rather
Is to penetrate within
And discover the nobody
That is under the skin.
